Tractin in Taber Town

Howdy!!
Hey so I miss you guys and everything but this thing where the time keeps getting faster and faster is really bumming me out... like it's going wayyyy too fast.

This week has been a really good one!
Just some of the things that we did!

On Tuesday we drove to Medicine Hat for their zone training meeting-- Sister Sims and I got to train on the Sacrament. That was SUPER awesome! What better thing to talk about than the sacrament and the Savior?! On the way home we stopped at this drive-in, looked a little sketch but it was actually really good! Diners, drive-ins and dives maybe?!

Wednesday we had our zone training meetings in both of our Lethbridge zones-- those went really well too. We got to have a discussion about the mission broadcast a couple weeks ago, all about teach repentance and baptize converts. That went really well. We were a little nervous cause our whole training was just a discussion, but everybody participated so that was good!

Went bowling for P-day last week... killed it!

Found my brother in the mission. Elder King :)

Helena gave us this recipe for cookies...
I think they look more like chicken nuggets but they still tasted good.

Ha. Brother Chris Rogers. He's this old British guy who is in our Vauxhall ward, he got admitted into the hospital and we went to see him this week. Never laughed so hard in my entire life!

Exchanges with Sister Halliday-- don't ask me why there's a pumpkin. Also, she goes home this week... super weird!!

So the Neufeld children had a baking competition and they wanted me and Sister Sims to judge it... that was a party! These kids really are the cutest! Oldest to youngest: Abe, Nancy, Peter, Pancho and Isaac. Love em to death!

Okay so knocking on doors is one of my least favorite things in the whole world-- maybe it has to do with the fact that we got chased off by a dog this week... ha but that was actually super funny. Anyway, Sister Sims and I decided that from here on out we are going to make a concerted effort to tract for at least 30 minutes every day. But we're going to make it the most effective by praying for where we need to be. So we tried that out this week. And holy cow, ha the Lord really is in His work! So we felt like we should go to this specific area and we knocked on maybe 10 doors. Out of those 10 doors we have 3 potential families that told us that we could come back, an old lady who said we could come share a message with her and we ended up knocking on one of our less actives that we haven't been able to talk to... he said that we could come back too. HA and this happened all in about 45 minutes-- it was pretty cool.

Another cool story from knocking this week- so we've been working with this girl named Emily, she told us that she was moving but that she didn't know her address yet cause it was super last minute. So she moved and now her phone doesn't work... she pretty much dropped off the face of the planet and we have no idea where to find her. BUT we went to her old place- it's this little four-plex and we decided to knock on the other apartments to see if they knew where she was. Ha we got the door slammed twice but the last door we knocked on this cute Chinese lady answered the door. Her name is Na and we talked to her, she didn't know where Emily was but she did say that we could come back! So we set up an appointment with her for this Thursday. That was pretty cool.

This upcoming week should be pretty good cause we're meeting with all these super solid potential investigators, we're pretty excited about it.

Oh, ha on Wednesday we picked up 2 new investigators!! This kid named Luke works with our Ward Mission Leader's wife, and one day he just came up to her and said that he wanted to learn more about Mormonism... ha so we gave him a call and met with him. But get this, he brought a friend as well, Brady. And he said that he just came along for the ride but he ended up asking lots of questions and being super interested! We taught them the restoration and gave them a Book of Mormon and they both agreed to meet with us this week! So that was pretty dang cool!

So on Saturday night our phone was buzzing off the hook.. all these members were texting us cause SISTER SIMS' SISTER IS ENGAGED! So that was pretty fun! Ha even though I don't really know them, I feel like I do cause I mean I'm with Sister Sims all the time... but that was kinda some exciting news!
Anyway, transfers are this week... hoping that I get to stay another one here with Sister Sims-- we've got so much work going on here I need to be a part of it. I'll let you know what happens :)

Quote of the week: "Although His time is not always our time, we can be sure that the Lord keeps his promises." -Henry B. Eyring

Scripture of the week: D&C 121:7-8 My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; and then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.

Love you all so much! :) Have a fabulous week!

"We don't have to do big things to be like Jesus."

Hello Hello!
I am alive! We're just emailing a little later today!
So this week was super great. On Monday President and Sister Miles took me and Sister Shields out to lunch.... so that was super fun! I just love them so dang much, such Christlike people. But get this-- so they took us to this Mexican restaurant that they had been to before and they gave their server a pass along card.  They asked her about it and said that Sister Shields and I could teach her sometime if she wanted, and she gave us her number!! It was so awesome!

There are some fun things happening here. On Thursday we got a referral for these 2 people in an old folks home. We called the lady who gave us the referral and she just threw in one more name. We stopped by those people that day and the one that she added in at the end was SUPER interested! She used to be Muslim, and she converted to be an Anglican and is just super great. She had heard something about Christ coming to the New World and was wondering about it... we were just like "We can teach you about that!!" So we taught her about the Book of Mormon and she was so so excited about it! We're going to see her tonight so we'll see how that goes.

We also did exchanges this week-- that was super fun! Hermana Vera came here with me and Sister Shields went with Hermana Dean. It was just a super great day! I love doing exchanges because I am learning so much! I also gave my first trainings in zone training meeting this week and it went really well. So that was a big relief.

Finally, a picture of Sister Shields and me

Exchanges with Hermana Vera :)

our cute zone-- we've mastered the self timer :)

A better picture of our zone

Myrna gave us some cute fuzzy socks :) love that lady

Saturday was really fun! We cleaned the church with a few people in the ward then we got to hang around for Super Saturday with the Relief Society. So apparently that is a thing everywhere... who knew!? But it was really fun! Lots of Christmas crafts and stuff. Sister Shields made an essential oil face cleanser thing, so that was pretty sick!
Yesterday was the primary program and it was super fun! I didn't know how many kids we had in our ward until they were all up on the stage-- ha I just thought our ward was SUPER old, but no, there are kids! It was great! Seriously the best thing, so adorable!

Ya, not too much really happened this week other than that. Just making my way downtown, walking fast, faces pass... Ha when you're walking downtown it's ridiculous how often I think of that song...

Ha but anyway, life is good! I'm really doing so well!

Quote of the week: "We don't have to do big things to be like Jesus." -Casper Parry (a little kid in the primary program)

Scripture of the week: Ether 6:8 and 10-- And it came to pass that the wind did never cease to blow towards the promised land... and they did have light continually, whether it was above the water or under the water.
How awesome is that?! There may seem like there are lots of wind and stuff in our life but it'll all be for our good-- because it's blowing us towards the promised land. And the Lord is going to be there for us in our ups and our downs... just love it.

Hope that you all have a great week!

Love ya,
Sister King

ps... SHOUTOUT TO ABBY FOR BEING A STATE CHAMP!!!!! Seriously you're the coolest! :)

"This is soon-to-be SISTER Thompson!"

Hello hello!!!

Okay I know I say this practically every single week but HOW IN THE WORLD IS IT ALREADY MONDAY?!?! I feel like I was just barely writing you guys!
But anyway, this past week literally FLEW by! It was a super solid week though! It was definitely a service packed and lesson packed week (love it!)

First things first-- I saw Robbie Dahl! Boy was that so much fun! We went to Wing Wednesday at Earl's-- it was great! I felt like I was right back in Provo. It was good but weird to hear about everything going on back in the 84604... but still super great!
Earls with the one and only, Robbie Dahl

On Tuesday we were able to have zone training meeting and we had some special guests. President and Sister Miles were in the south and came to our meeting. So it was good to see them-- just love them to pieces. The meeting was super awesome. We talked a lot about the Restoration and going back to the basics. There was definitely a special spirit there.
Elder Behm's Birthday

Zone Training Meeting

Ha when we got out of ZTM we had a voicemail from Linda-- she's is like super super pumped for her baptism and she started out by saying "This is soon-to-be SISTER Thompson." It was adorable. But we planned out her baptism and it should be super good-- it's this Saturday so we are getting so excited for it!! Ha Ken is literally one of the funniest people that I have ever met. We had a lesson with them the other day and right in the middle of the lesson he pauses us and says "I want you to hear what I've been practicing.... Having been commissioned of Jesus Christ I baptize you"-- ha he went on to recite the rest of the prayer. It was great. Then he told us that he had this dream about him dropping Linda in the font (they are both very frail) but we told him that we would have a "lifeguard" be in there with them. Ha he gave this huge sigh of relief and said "Thank goodness! I can see it now in the headlines of the Herald. Man drowns wife in baptismal font..." Ha he's just a funny guy but we reassured him that they would be a-okay!

Tender mercy of the week. We were doing some service at this golf course-- it was a fundraiser for the Lethbridge food bank. Anyway, we were out on the gold course and don't ask me why 2 red heads forgot to put on sunscreen or bring anything to protect us from the sun... but we got fried. Luckily these 2 nice ladies brought us an umbrella. I can't even imagine what we would have looked like if they didn't bring that to us. So ya, prayers get answered and the Lord protects his missionaries :)
Volunteering at the gold course. Was it fun? You can Bet on it... (video to follow)

Lobster Legs... we purchased some sunscreen don't you fret

We picked up a new investigator this week, well he's actually a former investigator. His name is Aron and he's super jacked and has tattoos all up his arms. It's awesome. But his daughter just left on her mission to Virginia Chesapeake (Which just happens to be where my MTC district went) but he's all sad about her leaving and was wondering more about what she would be doing. Which means he is super humble and has a soft heart. SCORE! So we're pretty pumped about that.

This week was just awesome. Things are popping here in Lethbridge! Can't wait for Linda's baptism on Saturday!

Fun fact-- our apartment flooded and so our land lords brought over this insanely loud and large fan so obviously we had to do some model shots-- they are ripping out some of the wall today so that should be exciting!

One of my favorite ladies, Jean.

I can pretend to like cats every once in a while.

Natasha-- from Thailand. She gave me the cutest, most slobbery kiss on the cheek before we left. So cute!

Hope that you all have a great week! This gospel is true and teaching it to people is the most rewarding experience of my entire life. Love you all!

Quote of the week: "Keep your chin up, trust in God and believe in God things to come." -Elder Holland

Scripture of the week: D&C 84:88 "And whoso receiveth you, there will I be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up."

Love yall!

1 Month Down!

HELLOOO!!!

Boy oh boy this week has seriously flown by!
This week has definitely been full of ups and downs... like a lot of both.
Monday was a really good day! We had this really fun Potluck dinner with our YSA ward. So much fun!
On Tuesday we had Zone training meeting (ZTM) and that was super awesome. Our zone is fantastic, just wanna be like all of them! We also went to this really good steak house for lunch to celebrate Elder Wimber's birthday. That was so much fun! That day we pretty much just went around contacting this list of less actives that our Bishop gave us. We have about 350 member in our YSA ward and about 50 of them show up on Sunday... so that list is pretty dang long. But we get to talk to a bunch of young adults which is still really fun.
This night was also super awesome because we had a great lesson with our investigator. He pretty much knows that the church is true and that it will bless him and his family but he has a hard time keeping commitments. His daughter just got her mission call though and I think that since he has seen that he is getting a little more motivated to keep his commitments. He told us that he was going to read and pray every day!  We meet with him next week so we'll see how that goes.
We also met with our other investigator (the one that bore her testimony in church) and she is progressing so fast! We put her on date for April 16! So that was probably the spiritual high for this week.  She is just so ready to hear the gospel and has so many questions!
Wednesday is always one of my favorite days because who doesn't love waffle Wednesday?!? Every Wednesday we get to make waffles for the institute students and just talk with them. We get to play them in ping pong and pool and stuff so that's way fun. It's really awesome because it's so casual so nonmembers come quite frequently. We met this super awesome guy from Kenya and he agreed to take the lessons. Our dinner on Wednesday was great. We ate with this cute family in the ward.  They have had such a hard life and they just told us like their whole story. They had a girl with special needs that passed away 6 years ago... that hit me really hard because of the special place in my heart for kids with disabilities. But we left them with a message that I hope helped them: The new Mormon message that the church came out with. If you haven't seen it go watch it right now and put it all over facebook and just share it with everyone. EVERYONE deserves to know that they can be with their family again! So just go and share it please!

Thursday was pretty great as well (CELEBRATED MY 1 MONTH MARK) so crazy, I've been out for a month, that went by so fast!!!
We had a bunch of people to teach, some of them fell through but that's just the life of a missionary. We did get a few referrals which is always great. But we got to go to 2 Relief Society parties for the March 17th party. Lots and lots of food, but also I really liked the program. They talked about how important Relief Society is and  it really is so great! I hear so many stories from mothers that just talked about how big of an influence their Relief Society was. And it's always just these little things. So everyone just try to find someone that might need a high five as you walk by, the little things like that can change someone's day completely.
Ha Friday was not our best day... but we survived. We got to go out to lunch with a bunch of high priests in our family ward. Ha they all have such fun stories to listen to, so that was pretty fun.
Not so fun fact of the week: Canada has normal cops AND photo cops. Seriously the worst. So after our lunch we got a call from the mission office (you never want to receive a call from the mission office)... Sister Blake got a ticket. She was so sad. There are also these school zones that are the worst and they always put photocops there to zing people. Dumb right? Anyway, so I am now the designated driver. Ha I still have no idea where anything is around here so this should be pretty interesting.
Saturday was awesome! We went to church with our friends from the Seventh Day Adventist church. It was really interesting to see how things were done there. It was pretty weird, not gonna lie. They like had this karaoke moment during the service. Ha I don't even know how to describe it. The one thing that I did notice was that our churches actually teach very similar things, but the spirit was not there. It made me so grateful that we have the spirit at our church meetings, you don't understand how strong the spirit is at church until you go to a church that the spirit just isn't there. For the rest of the day we just contacted some more people from our list.  The day went by pretty fast.

SUNDAY! Oh man I was so glad to go to church. Just being able to take the sacrament every week is the biggest blessing.  Don't take that for granted! It is awesome! Our investigators came to church and that always makes my day.
All in all this week has been kinda crazy, but the church is still true!! Hope you all have a fantastic week! Please share that message, it helps us missionaries out so much because we don't have social media to put it on.
Love you all,
Sister King
