We Believe in Being Subject to Kings......

GOOD MORNINGGG!!!!!

How in the world is it already Monday?!? We have been super busy, which is great, but it makes the time go by so quickly.

Our week was awesome!!! Okay, so we were going through our area book and came across this guy named Lord Alfred Peyten. Ha yes, Lord Alfred. We stopped by and he let us in and said that he would love to have us come back... so we did. Holy cow I have never met anybody with such a hard heart. He straight up was like "you're trying to plant this seed on hard ground..." ha at least he got the analogy that we were talking about, so I don't know if that will go anywhere, but as we were getting ready to go we asked him if he knew of anybody that we could teach. And he said yes! Ha so we're going back sometime this week and he is going to try and get his friend to come... weird how people will give us their friends to teach but not be interested themselves. But hey it's still pretty cool.

Now let me tell you about Tuan.

  • gave us a call this week and said that he needed to meet with missionaries asap.
  •  has been going to church for 6 years.
  •  has held a calling-- he taught Elder's quorum.
  •  has a testimony.
  •  has met on and off with missionaries for 10 years.
  •  has not been baptized.

Ha so that's a little about him... but we had a super stellar couple lessons with him this week. We straight up asked him why he hasn't been baptized yet and he said that it just never "clicked"... we asked him how he was feeling about it now and he said that it's a goal. Then we talked about the temple and he expressed that he would really like to go inside. I'm just sitting there like "well I know of one super simple way to get you there." But lessons have been going well for him and he said that this time it's just different. So hopefully we'll get somewhere :)

Okay here's the awkward Sister King moment of the week. So we were out tracting when we saw these 2 people outside on their porch. One of them looked like a teenager and the other one looked YSA age. Obviously we had to go and talk to them, so we did. We walked up and talked for about 5 minutes-- they're super chill. Then I found myself saying the words "Do you have friends?" As soon as it came out of my mouth I was like, what in the world did I just say? Ha but she ended up saying "No, we moved here from West Africa and it's been hard to make some new friends." So we went in real quick with the whole YSA thing and she was so stoked and said that she would love to come out to any activities that we had. Ha so even though I am slightly awkward socially the Lord still can make up the difference. YAY. So we're pretty excited about that.

Last night we had a really good lesson with one of our less active members. She is an RM and has been going through some really hard things right now and has been meeting with missionaries for a couple years now... but last night we had a super awesome lesson about gratitude and at the end she was crying and just said "I've had a lot of sisters and I have loved all of them... but you 2 are MY missionaries." It was honestly the cutest thing. She's doing great. It's cool to be able to connect with people, the Lord knows exactly where we need to be. I'm learning so much from this area already.

Yesterday we had all of our investigators come to church. It was awesome!!! So they're all progressing. Then yesterday after sacrament one of the members came up to Sabrina and asked when her baptismal date was. And she said "I haven't picked one yet". Then I looked over at her and asked how she was feeling about baptism. And she flat out said "I'm feeling good, I just need to pick a date." WHAT IS LIFE?!?! Seriously it was awesome. So hopefully we'll be able to pick a date for her sometime this week.

I think that's about all for this week. We have a really good week ahead of us as well. Miracles are happening and our people are progressing. It's awesome.

Anyway, love you lots and hope that you all have a great week :)

Also in case you were wondering I did pull the "we believe in being subject to kings" on Sister Ho Ching this week. She's good to me :)

Love ya,

Sister King

Scripture of the week: 1 Nephi 11:17-- I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless I do not know the meaning of all things.

Quote of the week:
"The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ takes the slums out of people, and then they take themselves out of the slums. The world would mold men by changing their environment. Christ changes men, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature." -Ezra Taft Benson

#teamjacob

HELLOOOOOOO!!!!!

Hope that you are had a super Easter. I know that I did-- just full of fun things and remembering the Savior and the Resurrection, so what could be better? Plus I finished the Book of Mormon yesterday-- that was probably one of the coolest things I've done so far. Started it on Christmas and finished on Easter. SUPER  COOL. And guess what... it's still true!!

Some Easter presents from our YSA

Hey look. It's a big pig...

Found this street while out tracting. pretty cool hey?

Snow. It's supposed to be spring, but there's snow.

Ha so our gate to get into our apartment is super ghetto and it takes us about 5 minutes to open it.

Ceri Edwards in our ward gave us this HUGE easter basket.

It's ma buddy Zeus-- the people that live above us own him and he's the cutest thing in the world!

Ha our members gave us organic chocolate.... solid.

Marshall's "man getting eaten by a shark" drawing

FINISHED THE BOM!!!!!

Anywayyyyy, this week was awesome! We were so busy! Met with a TON  of members this week and were sharing with them the #princeofpeace video. That's been so fun! Seen it like maybe 90 times and it still gets me every time. I just love that title for the Savior... Prince of Peace. And it's so true. He is the only source of true and lasting peace.

We had some bomb lessons with some of our investigators this week. Jacob is doing really well... we just have to take it real slow with him cause he loves all the super deep things but still has a hard time understanding the basics. Like that God loves him. And it's been super humbling for me to watch this cause I know that God and the Savior love me and that no matter what I do, no matter how many mistakes I make they are still going to love me regardless, and I have just known that my whole life. It hurts my heart to seem him struggle with that, cause there's so much peace that comes from just knowing that our Heavenly Father loves us. But the lessons that we had this past week were awesome. If you haven't seen the Mormon message-- Hope of God's Light, then go watch it ASAP. Literally my favorite. So we're definitely on #teamjacob

We also had a really good lesson with Sabrina. We taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that went really well! We talked lots about baptism and she is totally on board... we just have to pray about a date and get her to come out to church. Plus she's moving to Australia in May for 5 months... so that's another stumbling block. But I'm sure that the Lord will shed some light and we'll be able to know what we should do. I just love talking about baptism, cause literally you can just say "why was Jesus Christ baptized?"... "to show the example for us".... ha "will you follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized?" Literally it's so easy. It just makes sense!

Ha so me and Sister Ho Ching did the relief society lesson yesterday and we literally had .3 seconds to prepare.... so we just talked about Easter and the #PrinceofPeace. Easiest lesson I've ever given, could talk about the Savior and the Atonement for ages. Also, during sacrament we sat with this cute family and their little boy Marshall sat next to me and holy smokes... It's never been so hard to keep from laughing in my entire life.... here's just a few quotes that I remember.
"Are you from India? Cause you look like an Indian."
"Gummy bears are a choking hazard" .... I should mention that he's 5
"Here I drew you a picture... it's a man getting eaten by a shark."

So that was just really fun.
Then in the YSA ward one of the speakers didn't show up so the Bishop was calling people from the audience to bear their testimony. He looked at Sister Ho Ching for a solid 10 seconds then called on me.... ha we think he forgot her name. But that's a-okay! I love getting called on the spot #perksofbeingamissionary

Our Easter was super awesome! The members are so good to us and it was just the best.

Also, I just found out that my investigator Na from Taber is on date for baptism!!! So that is pretty much the best thing of my entire life!!!

Ha sorry this email is all over the place.... but I'm just happy.

The church is true. The book is blue.

Scripture of the week: Moroni 7:48-- Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure.

and another one cause the scriptures are just so good. John 14:27-- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Quote of the week: "We must anchor ourselves to eternal principles and testify of them. No matter the world's response" --Neil F. Marriott

Love you all! Hope that you have a stellar week

"The spirit is not a horcrux"

Hello lovely people.

This week has been super awesome! First full week back up here in Calgary down! It's definitely a lot different and is really taking some getting used to, but it's been real good so far.

We have been BUSY!! The best thing ever as a missionary!
So we have been going around to a bunch of the people in the ward sharing the #PrinceofPeace video, and that has been real good! I've seen that video oh so many times but the spirit comes every time and I never get sick of it. Go watch it if you haven't.

We had some super solid lessons this week! So we're teaching this kid named Jacob-- he's 18 and has a TON of questions. But he is super genuine in his interest in learning more. Ha so we were having a lesson on Tuesday and it was the weirdest thing. We were talking about the spirit and everything, Jacob looked kinda confused and then I found myself saying "the spirit is not a horcrux." Ha and I was just like... wow did I really just say that??  But it was the coolest cause he said "that was exactly what I was thinking!!" Ha it was pretty funny, and cool how the spirit can literally bring things into your mind-- I would have never come up with that on my own! So that was fun. And J is doing really good. He came with us to a baptism on Saturday and to church yesterday-- he's progressing a lot and I'm just real excited about this!

Sometimes when you're knocking doors and people continue to not answer
you just take a picture in front of their door and call it good

TEMPLE WITH JENNNNNN!!!!! Crazy how fast you can love people.
Only known her for a week and she is already one of my favorite people.

Sister Huang--- aka my grandbaby (Sister Burnside trained her)

Mi amigos

Jacob, Sarah and Dallin. Some chill YSA friends.

ha. wrong.

Sister Meiners. She emailed me before she got out here and she's just the cutest sister ever!

We also met with our investigator Sabrina-- she's super awesome! We had a BOMB lesson on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's so fun to ask people why they think Jesus Christ was baptized... cause he literally did it to be an example to us and to fulfill all righteousness. So if you want to follow Jesus Christ why not be baptized? She's getting so close I can feel it!

Okay, so Saturday was just the best day ever. We were able to go and do baptisms with Jen, our recent convert. And it was just the best thing of my entire life. Haven't done baptisms for forever. But she found a bunch of family names so we got dunked quite a few times. It was awesome. Plus my first time in the Calgary temple, man I just wish I could go to the temple all day every day. Then we went to a baptism right after. Best day. Temple and a baptism... what could be better?

So we do service every Tuesday at this ice rink-- I guess the sisters that have been here have been doing that for a while... but while we were there this week I talked to this guy named D that works there. He started talking to me and Sister Ho Ching about like the temple and stuff and wants to know more... ha so that was awesome! Service does wonders!
ANYWAYYYY, life is good. Still getting used to the whole YSA thing. But it's all good. Ho-king is going great. Love her lots!

So ya, my life is the best. It's fantastic!

quote of the week: "Trust the Lord, get some sleep, and wake up happy." -Pres. Eyring

scripture of the week: Ether 6:3
And thus the Lord caused stones to shine in darkness, to give light unto men, women, and children, that they might not cross the great waters in darkness.

Love you all!!

Elder Henry-- served around him for a year of my mission. so that's chill.

So Sister Burnside is in my zone now. Is this the best day of my life? You betcha.

SISTER HO CHING!!! or should I say Sister Ho King? ;)

Waterton

Jen Crowson-- my fav

Just a couple sisters that I came out with all at the transfer station

Ha nope, not even in the slightest. So I got transferred up to Fish Creek in Calgary. I'm pretty sure it's the Southwest. But my new comp is Sister Ho Ching (hence the Ho King... that's our companionship name)-- She's from American Samoa. Ya, there is an American Samoa and an Un-American Samoa... who knew?!? But she's great. She's been out for almost 8 months and she's just adorable!! We're serving in a YSA ward up here as well as a family ward. Lemme just say that being back in YSA has got to be like the weirdest transition ever. We had a ward talent show for the YSA ward on Friday and there was a room full of young people my age and I'm just awkward and don't know how to talk to people my own age... but give me an old lady and I can talk for forever!! Ha but it's all good. Our area is pretty big cause of the YSA ward-- we cover the whole stake :) yippee skippee.

But really I'm seriously so stoked about life right now. There is a TON of potential here and we're just so so excited to go out and find people to teach! We did have one investigator in our YSA come and watch conference with us and she's awesome. She is super involved in her own church but is wanting to learn more from us. So that was pretty fun. We also picked up a new gator this week. He is 18 and just has so many questions and it's awesome. We taught him the Plan of Salvation this last time and after watching conference I was just like "go watch the first session and it'll answer all your questions."

WASN'T CONFERENCE JUST THE BEST THING OF YOUR ENTIRE LIFE?!? Cause it was for me. There was literally a talk directed towards investigators-- it was awesome!! Literally all the talks were just so good. Like all my questions got answered in the first session... and then it just got better and better from there. So much about the Plan of Salvation, the Godhead-- especially the Holy Ghost and not being fearful... ya know my favorite scripture D&C 6:36-- totally applies :)

I just love the spirit that comes from conference, it went by wayyyyy too fast. Can't wait to get the conference edition of the Ensign-- ha cause us missionaries got to wait for that and can't pull out a handy dandy phone and look it up. But ya, it was awesome. It's always good to remember that God's "work and glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." GOD WANTS US BACK!!! Hard times happen but Heavenly Father wants all of His children to make it home.
Also, wasn't it just the best thing to be able to hear from President Monson?!? I love that man. He truly is called of God. He just keeps fulfilling his calling all the way to the end.

One other thing that I especially enjoyed was how many times we heard the phrase/scriptures line upon line, precept upon precept... and brighter and brighter until the perfect day. That's what life is all about. Learning one step at a time, God wants us to learn but He's going to give us what we can handle when we can handle it. He's perfect. And as we strive to follow the Savior and "walk with Him" then one day... way way in the future we'll be able to be perfect too.

Our spirits are high and I am just so happy to be a missionary right now. We're also starting to share the new Easter message with people now-- if you haven't seen it go and watch it right now!! #PrinceofPeace don't you just love that word peace?!? Peace is exactly how I would describe the Savior and how you feel when you have Him in your life. There's so many people who don't have that peace in their life and I get to be out here 24/7 trying to bring people that peace. It's awesome!!

Ha sorry if you got bored but I'm just excited.

Life is good. God is good. Abby and Mom are in NYC. Pumped for Easter.

Love you lots!! Have a great week :)

Scripture of the week: John 3:16-- For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Quote of the week: (from conference yesterday) "TAKE THE MISSIONARIES SERIOUSLY!" -Joaquin E. Costa

LOVE YOU!!
